Research Area Details

Sustainable Development

Research in this area might investigate:

  • the environmental impact of buildings, including the energy and greenhouse gas emissions associated with the procurement and operation of buildings;
  • design strategies and methods leading to improved building design;
  • building energy and environmental impact simulation;
  • building user issues;
  • designing for people with Dementia.
Current research within the School of Architecture addresses the environmental impacts associated with the built environment. This is now regarded as being of global importance since scientific research has confirmed that global warming, perhaps the largest threat to continued human existence, is a consequence of human activities. The construction and operation of cities has been identified as one of the most significant of those activities.
