History and Theory

History and Theory is a major stream in the School of Architecture's research profile, as well as in its undergraduate teaching. Research is undertaken, and supervision available, in the History and Theory of:

  • Architecture
  • Landscape & Gardens
  • Urban Planning & Design
  • Aspects of Art & Design
Research in this area involves not only architectural history and theory, but also the history and theory of landscape and garden design, and of urban planning and urban design. In addition, some staff undertake research in the history and theory of art.
